McLean Planning Committee

Purpose

Advises and makes recommendations to the Dranesville District Supervisor on land use planning in the McLean Community Business Center (CBC). Reviews proposed McLean CBC land use developments. Provides a forum for public input on McLean CBC land use issues. Reviews the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan for the McLean CBC.

Organization

Organized entirely of volunteers, the MPC is composed of four representatives from each of four constituent groups: the McLean Citizens Association, the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce, the McLean Landowners Association and the Surrounding Citizens Homeowners' Associations. The four Officers of the MPC are comprised of one each from the four constituent groups. Terms in office rotate annually. There are four alternates for each constituent group.

How The Committee Works

New Projects are presented to MPC by the property owners and the development community. A working Subcommittee is selected to work closely on that project in a public-private partnership to facilitate successful compliance with the Revitalization Plan. Current Projects being studied by subcommittees are reviewed monthly by the full committee. An 'endorsed' or 'declined' recommendation is eventually made by the MPC and the Supervisor and appropriate county officials are informed of the MPC recommendation.

Recent Projects

Renovations at the Giant and Salona Village Shopping Centers, the Exxon Station, development of the Staybridge Inn, the Palladium Condominium and numerous residential projects. MPC has been instrumental in promoting long term improvements in downtown McLean such as the under-grounding of utilities in the CBC.

MPC meets the third Wednesday of each month, 7:30 pm, at the McLean Community Center. Meetings are open to the public and the public is encouraged to attend. You may contact MPC by email at: mpcchair@yahoo.com.
