Coming Up

Next Meeting - Tuesday, October 19 at 7:30 PM (Maffit Room)

Reminder – The Budget & Taxation Committee, along with our colleagues from the Transportation Committee, will be meeting this Tuesday, October 19 (7:30 pm) in the Maffitt Room. Our speaker will be Delegate Vince Callahan. We’ve asked him to address adequate public facilities ordinances and developer impact fees; why Fairfax County received only 7.7% of the additional state aid to K-12 education despite having 13.5% of the students and “paying” 26% of the phase-out of the senior citizen exemption for the personal income tax, more than 20% of the car tax reimbursement freeze, etc.; and what we might expect on the transportation front in 2005 in view of the rejection of the sales tax increase (every precinct in Dranesville), Senator Chichester’s desire for tax increases and impact fees, and the significant risk that our area could loose all federal transportation funding because of the Sierra Club’s two court of appeals’ victories on air quality. In case any of you are interested in the air quality issue, attached is a link to the February 2004 opinion. http://pacer.cadc.uscourts.gov/docs/common/opinions/200402/03-1084a.pdf It references the earlier decision. These issues should make for some interesting remarks. Please make every effort to attend.

Also, note that the MCC will be brimming with events that evening. Be prepared to walk from a parking place or car pool.

Transportation Committee

The Transportation Committee works with neighborhoods to identify problem intersections and other safety related issues on local streets and roadways. Members work closely with County and State transportation departments (DOT and VDOT) and with the District Supervisor to find solutions. Committee members follow the progress of major transportation initiatives that impact McLean, such as Rail to Dulles, and the Beltway widening proposal and prepare recommendations for MCA Board testimony.

The Committee meets the third Tuesday of the month at the McLean Community Center.
